The purpose of Portable sandblasting equipment is to clean the surfaces of drip-molded, pressed, forged and heat-treaded pieces as well as metal constructions and installations, bridges, tanks, pipe-lines and concrete surfaces or to prepare the surfaces before final coating otherwise further surfaces treatment. Many abrasives can be applied: silica belongs to the group of mineral, but generating a lot of dust and it could cause the silicosis to the operator. It is not allowed to used in Germany, Great Britain, Sweden and Belgium due to this reason, so garnet is used instead, but far more expensive. Other options are magnesium sulfate or just baking soda. Applying agricultural abrasives such as crushed nut shells or fruit kernels by Portable sandblasting equipment are soft and commonly used for sensible surfaces as cleaning the bricks or removing graffiti. For cleaning very responsive surfaces, it is best to use the synthetic abrasives. Application of metallic abrasives as steel shot, steel grit, stainless steel shot, cut wire, copper shot, aluminum shot and  zinc shot is suitable for stubborn dirt on the very solid surfaces.

No matter that majority of abrasive material are not hazardous in themselves, there is the presence of many risks for  Portable sandblasting equipment operators such as burns, injuries by the flying material, hazardous dusts, formation of an explosive atmosphere, including exposure to extreme noise. So, while working by Portable sandblasting equipment, it is mandatory to follow safety instruction as wearing protecting overalls, hand glows, helmet, hearing protection, shielding glasses and shoes.
